“Holy Spirit” - Our Intimate Friend - Sermon From 05/07/2026

The Holy Spirit is fully God and the third Person of the Trinity. He is not an impersonal force or a created being but a divine Person who shares the same nature as the Father and the Son. Scripture clearly teaches both His personality and His deity, showing that He actively works in the lives of believers and throughout creation.

One of the strongest biblical proofs of the Holy Spirit's deity is found in Acts 5:1–4, where

Peter tells Ananias that by lying to the Holy Spirit, he had lied to God. Likewise, the writer of Hebrews attributes Old Testament words spoken by Yahweh directly to the Holy Spirit, identifying Him with the God of Israel. The Holy Spirit is also called the Spirit of God, demonstrating that He shares God's divine essence rather than being created by Him.

The Holy Spirit possesses divine attributes that belong only to God. He is eternal, omnipresent, omniscient, omnipotent, holy, and the giver of life. He performs works that only God can accomplish, including creation, regeneration, sanctification, and revealing God's truth. His ability to know the thoughts of God and transform believers confirms His divine nature.

Jesus also taught that the Holy Spirit is a person. In John 14–16, He refers to the Spirit as "another Counselor" who teaches, guides, comforts, and bears witness to Christ. These actions demonstrate intelligence, will, and relationship, qualities that only a person possesses.

The Holy Spirit is described by many titles, including Spirit of God, Spirit of Christ, Spirit of Truth, Holy Spirit, Spirit of Wisdom, and Spirit of Life, each revealing His relationship, character, and ministry. Symbols such as the dove, fire, oil, water, wind, clothing, and the seal illustrate His work of empowering, cleansing, protecting, and sustaining believers. Christians should therefore honour, trust, and depend on the Holy Spirit daily for guidance, strength, and spiritual growth.
